Celiac disease has been seen in 0.7 percent of biopsies worldwide. Biopsies are obtained during an upper endoscopy from the duodenum. The prevalence in Europe and Oceania was 0.8 percent. The prevalence decreases in this order: Asia, Africa, North America, South America. (Source).

Symptoms of celiac disease include bloating and diarrhea. Nutritional defficiences can occur including calcium, vitamin D , iron , vitamin B12, folic acid, and zinc. Associated conditions includ osteoporosis, anemia, and stunted growth. (Source)
